I’m glad it wasn’t just snarky high school teenagers messing around. Like the scene with the red jacket: when you find a coat, is it not the first thing you do to check what’s in the pockets? At least five minutes passed before the characters even thought to do that, which was really annoying because it happened quite often throughout the film. If they needed to press the coasters on the table to get out of the room, why was the oven necessary? There were also loads of clues that were so obvious or could have been found so easily, but the film made them out to be major revelations. However, the first puzzle that they solved (Fahrenheit 451 being the temperature on the dial) seemed unnecessary. The puzzles and the clues were actually very intriguing to me. The escape rooms I’ve completed haven’t been nearly as intense as this one – immersive right to the end. The escape room they take part in seeks to experiment with the theory of ‘survival of the fittest’ – it bodes the question, who will be the sole survivor of the sole survivors? As Zoey (Taylor Russel) says, the six of them are ‘a statistical improbability’ – they shouldn’t be alive, but here they are. There have been several ‘escape room’ films over the past few years, but this one seemed the most intriguing.Įscape Room (2019) follows six people from different backgrounds who are sole survivors of some major catastrophe in their lives. As a girl who’s completed numerous escape rooms, I was so excited to watch this film when I found the trailer. I hadn’t heard anything about it on social media or on TV. I’ll be honest – I did not have high expectations for this film.
